Annual Appeal 2009

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Dear Generous Supporter of the John William Jackson Fund;

The past year has been filled with many surprises and terrific growth for the John William Jackson Fund.  We granted $35,000 to local organizations, surpassed last year’s unprecedented recycling fundraising numbers, received the City of Boise’s prestigious environmental award and have introduced an exciting branding initiative for the Fund which includes new website, logo and identity.  As 2009 begins to wind down, we again appeal to you for help in making our biggest contribution to Idaho youth programs.

Grant Giving – At the beginning of this year, we awarded grants totaling $35,000 for projects and programs that further our mission to advance academic scholarship, performing arts and outdoor sporting for Idaho youth. The awards were given to Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue, the Treasure Valley YMCA, Boise Philharmonic, local School Districts to purchase music instruments, Idaho Botanical Garden, Boise State University (Music & Art Departments), and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival.

Fundraising (Recycling) – Even in the current economy, the Idaho Youth Education Recycling Partnership (IYERP – the recycling fundraising arm of our Fund) has nearly doubled in size.  In 2008, we raised over $11,000.  For 2009, we’re on track to raise more than $20,000!  This is an amazing accomplishment with credit going to our recycling partners, our amazing community & the tireless efforts of our team.

In an effort to spread our recycling message into the community, we hosted our first Metal Recycling Day in Eagle on September 26th.  We invited any willing participant to bring any and all available metal to recycle.  The result was a fantastic turn-out, with over 4,000 lbs. of metal recycled, yielding over $250.00 in recycling proceeds.

On October 21st, in acknowledgment of our innovative recycling program, the Fund was awarded the City of Boise’s EnviroGuard Pollution Prevention Award.  This was a terrific honor and great recognition for the recycling initiative taken on by the members of IYERP.

Fundraising (Donations) Beyond the fundraising generated via recycling and corporate donations, the annual grants are made possible by donations from people like you.  Please stay in touch and we invite you keep up-to-date with our activities by visiting our website @ www.johnwilliamjacksonfund.org  and by checking out our News and Events page.  Our annual grant awards will be announced during the first quarter of 2010.  Remember, without your help we wouldn’t be able to make the impact we’re making.

Thank you for your continued support,

Ben

IYERP Update (November ’09)

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Well, here we are in December… We set a goal of raising $20,000 from recycling alone this year & it looks like we’re going to hit it right at the finish line.

Here’s the numbers:

For the month of November we raised $1091.35 versus $158.76 in November ’08.  That brings the total number for the year to $19,320.21 versus $11,332.30 at the same time last year.

That means we have $680.00 left to hit $20,000… And since I’m making this post on December 6th – I know that we’ve made great progress toward that $680 number already… but there’s a lot of hard work yet to be done.

Below are some recent recycling pictures:
